The City of Laurinburg operates an extensive wastewater collection system comprised of 156 miles of sewers and 33 pump stations. One of these pump stations, the Barnes Bridge Road facility, is a duplex submersible pump station that was constructed in 1994. This pump station exhibited significant degradation of its mechanical and electrical components and was quickly approaching the end of its useful life.
With the help of Willis Engineers, the City completely renovated this pump station and added several features to improve its reliability and provide for easier maintenance. Completed in February 2019, the project included new pumps, a fiberglass enclosure to house the discharge valves and piping and all new electrical systems. The improvements also added a standby generator and upgraded communications for increased reliability.
